Kenmore washer agitates but will not spin, why?

you could also have a bearing that is seizing up, it is located in the tripod , the brake embly slides up in this part, i always check this by jumping out lid switch so i can put it in spin then turning inner basket by hand at the same time, it should try to spin, if it spins slowly it could be 1 of 2 problems.when you put gearcse back in you cannot force it,it has to slide in and bottom out on bolt shoulders without force, you have to turn brake y by hand and push up at same time to get basket all the way up before installing gearcase, if it still spins slowly untighten 1 bolt at a time on gearcase with washer in spin cycle and see if it spins, if you cannot get it to spin after all that , you need a tripod, bearing or br sleeve is pressed in
