How to get over him and not ruin our friendship?

I just found out that my friend likes the guy I like. She started liking him last year and I just met him this year so I thought it would be better if I back off since she liked him longer. I really need help because its not as easy as I thought it will be. I like him a lot 'couse he's such an awesome guy.. Also.. she doesn't know about me likin' him too.. help me. I don't want to ruin our frienship but I really like him..
